About
Organization
The Hunts for Heroes project is a, "by Veterans, for Veterans" grassroots project backed and supported by VFW POST 10406 and Auxiliary based out of Cochrane WI. The project focuses primarily on outdoor recreation, rehabilitation, networking, and socialization within the Veteran community. Through privately funded donations from businesses and individuals, The Hunts for Heroes Project works through several regional project ambassadors who help organize and facilitate annual outdoor recreation opportunities for disabled Veterans.
History and Overview
The project was stood up in the fall of 2008 and started with a Muzzleloader Deer hunt in Buffalo County Wisconsin and has since expanded to the following annual hunts throughout the country.
  • Whitetail Deer, Archery & Muzzleloader (Buffalo County, Wisconsin)
  • Alligator and Wild Hog (Jena, Louisiana)
  • Aerial Helicopter Hog Hunt (Southwest Texas)
  • Salmon & Walleye Fishing (Bailey's Harbor, Wisconsin)
  • Mountain Lion Hunt (Colstrip, Montana)
  • Trophy Catfish Fishing (Wheeler, Alabama)

In addition to our annual trips several other pheasant shoots, waterfowl hunts, and local fishing trips are arranged seasonally as well. Qualified Veterans with disabilities or Purple Hearts are encouraged to reach out to VFW POST 10406 if they would like to participate or they can also be nominated by family and friends.
